The man accused of second degree murder in the death of Belleville native Elizabeth Nugent testified at his trial in a Milton courtroom Wednesday.
According to InsideHalton.com, 46-year-old Malcolm Copeland said he killed the 32-year-old Nugent in self defence because she had attacked him with a box cutter/utililty knife.
An emotional Copeland, who’d been in an on again, off again relationship with Nugent, said she became enraged after learning he’d been flirting with another woman online.
Copeland also claimed she angrily accused him of stealing around $16,000 out of her bank account.
The incident occurred in October of 2014. Nugent died from deep cuts to her neck.
The defence will continue to present its case to the jury.
