Officials with Parks Canada now say there will be a delay in opening the new Brighton Road Swing Bridge.
The bridge crossing the Trent-Severn Waterway, will have two lanes and pedestrian walkway and was supposed to open this month, but now won’t open until the end of July.
According to Parks Canada, there have been complications in the building of some mechanical components and with the completion of hydraulic systems, as well as unanticipated soil conditions.
Until the bridge is fully operational it will remain in the open position so boats can still pass through.
There is no mooring on site, no access to lock grounds or washrooms and canal paths are also closed until construction is complete.
