Owners of buildings with three or more apartments in Prince Edward County can expect a phone call in the coming days.
County council’s Affordable Housing Task Team and volunteers will be doing a phone survey asking rental property owners about vacancies.
A report to council from the team says the survey should be done because it’s believed vacancy rates posted by Canada Mortgage and Housing for Prince Edward County are incorrect.
Locals believe the vacancy rate is between 0% and 1% while CMHC says, as of October of last year, the apartment vacancy rate was 4.8%.
If vacancy rates were below 3%, developers would receive development charge rebates and would be eligible for CMHC rental financing.
The phone survey will start next week and continue for most of June.
Only owners of rental buildings with three or more units will be contacted.
