An OPP campaign focusing on highway safety kicks off Wednesday.
Operation Corridor will run the next couple of days, along the 401 in Northumberland County, focusing on commercial vehicle safety and the usual “Big Four” of aggressive, distracted and impaired driving, and the use of seat belts.
The OPP says there have been 25 fatal crashes involving transport trucks this year, which is up 25 percent from last year, with officers responding to more than 3,000 transport-involved crashes on its roads.
Investigators say in a large number of those crashes the transport driver has been at fault.
The OPP is also commending the many safe transport drivers on our roads and is reminding other motorists to respect their space and help keep everyone safe.
