It’s Bike Month across the Hastings and Prince Edward area, with this year’s theme being “Be safe. Be courteous. Share the road.”
The City of Quinte West has partnered with the City of Belleville, the health unit and local cycling groups to spread the message about active transportation and how cyclists and drivers can safely share the roads.
Community Engagement Officer Hannah Brown says there are some easy tips cyclists should keep in mind, to keep themselves safe.
She says for drivers, the keys to safety are to be aware and to give cyclists space.
Drivers should also remember not to park in bike lanes and when you are parked on the side of the road, be mindful when opening your doors, in case a cyclist is on the way by.
The city is also handing out free bike safety kits at city hall, including lights and bells, while supplies last.
