The Belleville Police Service responded to 91 calls between May 29, 2018 at 5 a.m. and May 30, 2018 at 5 a.m.
Domestic disputes
On May 29, 2018 police attended to four domestic disturbances throughout the day. The first occurred in the Front Street core area at 6:52 a.m. An investigation revealed a relationship had dissolved between a male and a female. Both were spoken to by police. Although there was a dispute about a financial matter, there was no report of any assault or injuries.
At 7:37 a.m. police were called to a second dispute on the west hill. Police responded after being called for yelling and screaming coming from a residence. A male and a female, both in their 20s were spoken with. This was the result of an argument only between the two.
At 1:17 p.m. police responded to a call for a disturbance in the northern portion of the city. Police did not report on what started this matter, however a young female was transported to another residence at her own request. There were no reported injuries or charges in this investigation.
At 10:46 p.m. police responded to a domestic call in the west end of the city. Investigation revealed a man and a woman had engaged in an argument. The pair were separated and spoken with. The matter was regarding a damaged cell phone. There were no injuries or other property damage reported.
Theft from motor vehicles
Police responded to six calls for thefts from motor vehicles in the preceding 24-hour period. Items such as wallets, credit and debit cards, identification and loose change were stolen. Breach of the peace
On May 29, 2018 at 7:10 p.m. police responded to the Yeomans Street and Elmer Street area for a report of a disturbance. The call first came in that a female was causing issues in the area by yelling and screaming. Further investigation revealed there had been a fracas between a father and his son. The son, a 26-year-old city man, was arrested for breaching the peace and was taken into custody. He was later released when police were satisfied that the breach would not continue and the situation was calmed.
Theft from donation box
On May 29, 2018 at 12:16 p.m. police received a report of a theft from a donation box from a public park. An investigation revealed a money donation box was damaged and cash stolen from it. Family dispute
On May 29, 2018 at 4:26 p.m. police responded to the northern portion of the city for a report of a family disagreement. An investigation revealed a young male in the home was being difficult with other family members. All persons in the home were spoken to and advice was provided. There were no reports of any property damage or injury.
Motor vehicle collisions
Police responded to a total of seven motor vehicle collisions in the preceding 24-hour period. Most were deflected to the Collision Reporting Centre for insurance and vehicle damage purposes.
On May 29, 2018 at 11:08 a.m. police responded to the North Front Street area for a report of a two-car collision. EMS also attended as did 2 tow trucks to remove the vehicles. An elderly gentleman received minor injuries. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact investigating officer Cst. On May 29, 2018 at 10:23 p.m. police responded to the east end of the city for a report of a motor vehicle colliding with a deer. Damage was moderate. The driver and two passengers were not injured. The vehicle was towed, and the animal perished.
911 calls/hang-ups
Police responded to a total of eleven 911 hang-up calls in the preceding 24-hour period. All locations of dropped calls were checked. Some people were spoken to on return calls from police dispatchers indicating that the call was accidental or a misdial. Messages were left by police for those who did not answer return calls. In all, nobody was found to be in any distress resulting from any of these.
Other calls for assistance
Police responded to numerous other calls for assistance within the last 24-hour period including calls about threats, trespassing on property, bail violations, alarms, mischief calls and reports of suspicious persons. All were cleared as solved while the bail violation resulted in a 52-year-old city man being arrested for breaching a probation condition regarding his surety. The man was arrested without incident and taken into custody. He will appear in bail court later today.
