The unemployment rate in the Quinte area sits at 4.6% and according to the Quinte Economic Development Commission that’s not completely good news.
The problem is that the lack of skilled workers makes it difficult to find workers for industries.
Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison told a meeting of the Commission Tuesday that contractors and municipalities are struggling to find skilled employees.
Harrison said the Quinte West building department is under a great deal of stress because of the problem.

Elevate Plus is a program to train unskilled workers.
It has just had 17 graduates hired by Vantage Foods in Belleville. They will be the start-up crew for the company’s new seafood processing facility.
