Belleville Police have made an arrest but are looking for witnesses to provide more information in connection with a sexual assault in the city.
Officers began their investigation on Thursday after a woman reported the incident.
She says an unknown man offered her a ride from the city’s east end, then drove to a secluded area in Thurlow Township, where she says he confined her and attempted to sexually assault her.
The woman got away and flagged down a passing vehicle.
A 74-year-old man has been arrested and charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and forcible confinement.
He has a bail hearing this afternoon in Belleville and his name may be released following that, pending any publication bans.
Investigators say they are still looking for more information on the case and have released photos of the suspect’s vehicle, which you can see below.
