The City of Belleville had less crimes reported in the first three months of 2018, compared to the first quarter of last year, according to the latest numbers from the city’s police force.
According to the BPS there were 954 crimes reported from January to March this year, with 1,242 reported last year during the same time period.
The clearance rate was down from 63% to 60%.
Deputy Chief Mike Callaghan tells Quinte News the drop in crimes is proof that the department’s enforcement strategies are working.
There were drops in the number of robberies, break and enters, drug offences and some violent crimes through the first quarter, with spikes in car thefts assaults and sex offences.
