A Belleville man managed to escape a brief police pursuit in the city Saturday afternoon.
Before 3 p.m., an officer on patrol observed a Volkswagen turning onto Cedar Street.
Upon recognizing the driver as a prohibited driver, the officer activated his roof lights while on Henry Street and the car accelerated away.
At this point the officer terminated the pursuit after factoring in the risk to public safety. The car was last seen turning south onto Octavia Street. A short time later the car was located abandoned on Highland Ave. by responding officers.
The car had improper plates on it and was towed. The 24-year-old man was not located.
His list of charges include dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, driving while under suspension, using unauthorized licence plates, and driving without valid insurance.
There were no injuries; nor was there any property damage during the short pursuit.
The investigation is continuing.
