Two people are facing multiple charges following a shoplifting attempt on Friday.
Belleville Police were called to Millennium Drive around 4:40 in the afternoon.
A couple had left the store without paying for their items and were confronted by store security. The male suspect then punched the security officer in the face while another security guard wrestled a backpack off the woman say police. The two fled but the male later returned with a knife. He retrieved the backpack and fled again.
Officers arrested both suspects on Hwy. 62
According to police, the backpack contained cocaine, scales, drug paraphernalia and stolen property, along with a quantity of cash.
A 21-year-old Quinte West man is facing charges of robbery, assault, theft under $5,000, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and proceeds of crime. He’ll appear in court today.
A 17-year-old woman is also facing theft, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and proceeds of crime. She will appear in court on June 5th.
