Quinte West’s new head of doctor recruitment says the city is doing all of the right things to try to attract new family phsycians, but may be a little bit behind time-wise.
Paula Mason gave a presentation to council after recently joining the doctor recruitment committee and says the city should have started with the process a few years ago, because it can take up to three years to sign a new doctor, depending on how far along they are in their studies.
Mason recently attended a number of recruiters’ conferences, medical career fairs and university open houses and says trips like that will continue through the summer.
But Mason says, Quinte West has lots to offer new docs who are looking for a place to set up shop.
Mason says one thing the city will need to address as more doctors eye the area is an increase in up-to-date professional spaces for them to work out of.
She adds that 25% of new doctors will come from word of mouth, 25% will come from being a resident or intern in the area, 25% will come from growing up in the area and going into the medical field and 25% will come from a random lead or career fair.
The city also has a new doctor recruitment website, which you can see by clicking here.
