Parks Canada is giving an update on construction of the Brighton Road Swing Bridge, which crosses the Murray Canal on County Road 64, connecting Quinte West and Prince Edward County.
Construction work to replace the bridge began in October and Parks Canada now says all of the pieces of the new bridge have arrived on site and are in the process of being put together.
Mechanical parts are being installed and electrical work is being done to connect the bridge to the operator’s booth.
Parks Canada officials say the bridge is being installed in the “open” position, while concrete and other critical components are installed and it will stay that way when the 2018 boating season officially opens in the middle of this month.
The bridge is expected to be fully operational and ready for vehicle traffic by the end of June.
