It was a nice day for a walk and a group of approximately 50 people came out to South Marysburgh Tuesday morning to participate in a walk-a-thon to protest the wind turbine project in Prince Edward County.
The Alliance to Protect Prince Edward County (APPEC) decided to hold the walk Tuesday, to mark the beginning of the activity period of the Blanding’s Turtles.
According to APPEC, The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change have made reference to a construction black out period from May 1 to October 15 to help protect the turtles.
APPEC Board Chair Gord Gibbons says he knew the turnout would be less than if held on a weekend but he felt having the walk May 1 was important.

APPEC withdrew their motion on Friday for a stay on construction by wpd White Pines after learning they will be continuing work on one site.
Gibbons says he didn’t expect to encounter any resistance while out on their walk.
The walk also raised funds for the Shore Appeal Fund.
The walk began at Lighthall and Royal Roads and finished at the Milford Town Hall.
