The Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation and the Quinte West Doctor Recruitment Committee want to celebrate the work of doctors in the community and at the hospital and are asking that May 1 be declared Doctor’s Day in the city.
Both groups say doctors in the city make an immense impact through their “helping, healing, volunteering and long shifts”, which all contribute to providing a higher quality of life for residents.
The day was officially recognized by the province in 2011, after a Richmond Hill MPP introduced a motion to celebrate the work of the province’s 28,000 doctors and May 1 was chosen to mark the birthday of Canada’s first female physician, Dr. Emily Stowe.
The Doctor Recruitment Committee, which was formed to attract new doctors to the area, says it will be recognizing local doctors in various ways throughout the next few weeks.
