Some good news for the Sophiasburgh Community Hub.
With an April 30th deadline looming to have capital funding in place as well as first year operating costs, Mike Farrell appeared in front of the Student Enrolment/School Capacity Committee on Monday.
The Committee agreed to an extension following a short presentation from Farrell and Todd Foster.
Farrell says he’s confident they’ll hit their target of $845,000.
He says they are confident they can have the remaining $335,000 in 60 to 90 days.
Farrell says with the committee approving the timeline extension it shows some faith in what they are trying to do.
Chair Jennifer Cobb says they are waiting to see if something good can come from the changes that are taking place in Prince Edward County.
The first phase of construction is the most significant portion of work ahead of them as it would see all of the common area upgrades, accessibility upgrades, re-working of the boys bathroom, the entry system, ramps, corridors, janitor room, mechanical room, fire separations and updated electrical system for the commercial kitchen as well as two classrooms that will be used for the business incubator.
The second phase sees entry systems along the west side of the school and food storage facility area constructed.
The final phase would see a second commercial kitchen constructed if required.
The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board approved the recommendation later that evening.
The new deadline to have the $845,000 is August 31, 2018.
If the funds are not in place, students from Sophiasburgh will be consolidated to PECDI in January 2019.
Cobb told the board the committee has faith the group will be able to meet the monetary goal.
