It’s been a YMCA Strong Kids weekend. Saturday, the Belleville Y announced its goal for this year’s Strong Kids Campaign, at $180,000, and Sunday it was the Quinte West Y’s turn.
The goal for 2018 is $90,000, up from $85,000 last year.
Last year’s campaign surpassed the goal, raising almost $90,000
Outgoing campaign chair councillor Karen Sharpe said over 500 kids benefitted from Strong Kids last year.
Campaign committee chair this year will be councillor Mike Kotsovos.
Money raised in a Strong Kids campaign is used to help financially challenged families enrol their children into the programs and activities on
offer at the YMCA.
This year’s campaign is off to a good start with the presentation of a cheque for $17,525 from the Quinte West YMCA staff and Board of Directors.
The campaign also received $5,000 from the Oshawa based family of Liam Morgan, a former Trenton Golden Hawks forward, who is now playing at Union College in New York State. Golden Hawks players are offered free memberships at the Y.
