The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation has issued the fourth-quarter payment to the City of Belleville for hosting the Shorelines Casino.
The payment, of almost $735,000 brings the total over the gambling facility’s first fiscal year, which runs April to March, to more than $3.5 million.
It’s the fifth payment received by the city and is about $200,000 higher than the payment for the same quarter in 2017.
The money is split into various city reserve funds, with 65% going to infrastructure maintenance, 10% to economic development, and 5% each to land acquisition, vehicle and equipment replacements, social infrastructure, disaster mitigation and a general contingency fund.
Council also recently used $500,000 from the casino fund to help bring down the tax rate during recent budget debate.
