A Belleville man has been fined $1,500 by the Ministry of Natural Resources, after pleading guilty to a pair of fishing offences in Picton, on April 6.
Vasily Dyachuk was ice fishing on the Bay of Quinte in February, when he was contacted by a conservation officer, who found Dyachuk was using an illegal gill net.
The net had been modified to allow it to be suspended under the ice and is considered to be a commercial fishing net and was fined $750 for that offence.
He was also using an extra line, which is against provincial regulations and was fined another $750 for that.
Dyachukâs net and fishing rods were seized and forfeited to the Crown and he had his fishing license suspended for a year.
