Relief is on the way for aggravated and frustrated drivers making their way through the urban part of the City of Belleville.
At an information meeting for Thurlow ward residents, Thurlow councillors Paul Carr and Jackie Denyes said that Phase 1 of a major
traffic light synchronization project would be getting underway this year and would be part of this year’s budget.
When complete, traffic signals will be working in harmony at 16 major intersections in the city.
“It’s a big problem. Now you almost have to pack a lunch to get from one end of urban Belleville to the other,” said Carr.
“City police officers have been nabbing a lot of speeders lately up here in Thurlow, and I think it’s because they’ve been frustrated by backups in the city so much they feel compelled to make up time!”
The synchronization work will be done on major streets such as Sidney, Dundas, and North Front.
