The Wellington Dukes scored two goals in eight minutes in the first period and made it stand up in enemy territory last night.
Colin Doyle and Frank Pucci found the back of the net and Jonah Capriotti stopped 29 shots in net as the Dukes edged the Aurora Tigers 2-1 to take a one-game lead in the Northeast Conference Final series.
Pucci’s goal came off a tip-in at 11:50 of the first from a Bryce Yetman shot, was his first as a Duke and stood up as the game-winner.
Dukes assistant coach Derek Smith sums up the effort from last night.
Smith adds the performance of the penalty kill against a deadly offensive Tigers club aided the team in their success.
The Dukes will rest up before heading into Game 2 Saturday night at Essroc Arena looking to take a firm grasp of the series.
Game time is 7:30 p.m.
