Quinte West’s Economic Development and Tourism Advisory Committee wants to know if bringing a food truck to the farmers’ market on Saturday morning will help bring more people to the market.
It was a concept brought forward by Ben Hagerman, the Economic Development Coordinator for Quinte West.
He said they were looking at Saturdays specifically as many of the local restaurants are not open during the hours the market is open and it may perhaps enhance the market’s draw.
Hagerman said there would be specifications as to what could and couldn’t be sold. Items like pizza wouldn’t be allowed, but maybe something like coffee and breakfast sandwiches would be ideal.
Councillor Al DeWitt said they should give some thought to opening the application process to local small business owners as well.
The committee approved the report, which will now also be seen by the corporate finance committee as Hagerman said it’s more of a business issue before appearing in front of council for final approval.
