A generous donation from Community Policing Volunteers will help Belleville Police keep the community safe.
On behalf of the Belleville Police Service last Tuesday evening, Const. Brad Stitt accepted a new Lidar speed detection device from the Belleville Community Policing committee.
Lidar uses a narrow laser beam to easily target specific vehicles over a large distance as compared to traditional radar devices.
While the Traffic Safety Unit has been using a Lidar for several years, Stitt says this particular device would be deployed for use by officers on general patrol.
Chief Ron Gignac added that the device will increase road safety through enforcement and education and advance Belleville further to becoming the safest community in Ontario.
