There was lots of praise for community volunteers, especially auxilliary police officers and members of Community Policing at a meeting of the Belleville Police Services Board Thursday.
At the massive Rogers Hometown Hockey event alone, volunteers put in 160 hours of work in just two days, helping people and saving taxpayers significant dollars.
Belleville Deputy Police Chief Mike Callaghan said the volunteers are great.
Volunteers working on the recent Cops and Kids Ice Fishing event were also in for high praise.
Chief Ron Gignac said he’d never worked in a community where various organizations worked so well together to put on special community events, pointing to his police service, the fire department, members of 8 Wing Trenton, Emergency Services, and civilian organizations.
