Press for progress.
That is the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day.
On March 8, things begin at the Belleville Public Library at 4:30 p.m. according to Karen Fisk of the Belleville International Women’s Day Committee.
Cyndy Baskin of Ryerson University is the guest speaker and will talk about the historical roles of Indigenous women prior to European contact, how colonization shattered their identities through the Indian Act, and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action in terms of violence towards Indigenous women.
Fisk says the theme for this year, Press for Progress, addresses the global gender gap report which says gender parity is over 200 years away.
No registration is required and all are welcome.
