A special Algonquin Child and Family Centre will be established in the north of Hastings County as part of Ontario’s commitment to Reconciliation with Indigenous People.
Hastings County has received funding to start up and operate the Journey Together EarlyON Centre based in Maynouth Public School.
Outreach services will be provided to families for children up to six years old.
Algonquin spokesman Stephen Hunter told county council on Thursday it was an “incredibly exciting day” and important for reconciliation.
The county received $785,000 to establish the Centre and operate it over the next two years.
Partnerships have been established with the Hastings and Prince Edward School Board, North Hastings Children’s Services and the Anishinaabe Baptiste Community Organization along with Hastings County.
