The Belleville Chamber of Commerce is taking on this year’s Canada Day celebrations.
Following a resolution passed at a special council meeting on Thursday night at City Hall, council elected to authorize the Chamber to organize this year’s festivities.
Mayor Taso Christopher says the Chamber has willingly agreed to take on this event.
The parks department will be providing $25,000 in in-kind services, $7,553 from the Canada Day reserve and $17,447 from the Grant Committee Financial Assistance account.
Christopher says right now this is a one-time deal but it will be re-visited in 2019.
