The low unemployment rate in the Quinte area is good news, but it does create a tight labour market for manufacturers and businesses.
Latest statistics show a 4.4% unemployment rate for the Quinte area.
Quinte Economic Development Commission Executive Director Chris King told a Commission meeting Tuesday “businesses indicate it’s increasingly difficult to find the people they need in a tight labour market.”
King says Loyalist College’s Elevate Plus program gets people on the job.
King says a province-wide study is now underway on the program to get more people into the workforce.
The program involves six weeks of training. One class graduates this week, another begins in March.
