The cost of a major infrastructure project in east end Belleville has gone up significantly.
At its meeting Monday, Belleville council will be asked to add $1 million to the budget
for the extensions of Haig Road and Station Street.
Should council approve the addition, the project’s budget would total $3.5 million.
Also, council will be asked to approve the bid from Dekeyser Excavating of Colborne to do the work, starting in the spring. Dekeyser’s tender was the lowest of six at $3,141,698 plus HST.
Reasons for the increase include the addition of street lighting, and the installation of water/sewer infrastructure on vacant land, to allow for future development.
Staff also say the original cost estimates were done in 2015 and all construction costs have increased considerably since then.
