Statistics Canada is out with a report on building permits which shows a good increase in construction activity
nationally at the end of the year, but an even better increase in the local area.
Nationally, the value of building permits rose 4.8% from November to December, totalling 8.1 billion dollars.
However, in the Belleville region, which includes the City of Belleville, Quinte West, Tyendinaga and Stirling-Rawdon, the value of building permits issued went from 20 million dollars in November to 24.2 million in December, a 21.2% jump.
That compares to a 12.9% increase in the Kingston region and a steep decline of 43.9% around Peterborough.
