Prince Edward County Mayor Robert Quaiff had some good news for Joy Vervoot and those hoping to create a seniors hub at the former Pinecrest Memorial Elementary School.
He told those in council chambers the County is the first expression of interest in the property that was declared surplus by the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board.
Vervoot says she wants to partner with the County to make this vision a reality.
The LoveSong project lead says they have the support of MP Neil Ellis, MPP Todd Smith and MPP Lou Rinaldi for this vision.
She says the project makes sense and it’s inspiring to think the school, even after it is closed, will continue to support the community.
Vervoot says the much loved school served the community for 50 years.
With some renovations there would be 50 affordable housing units, a centre for culture, recreation, and health-related activities open to residents and the broader community.
She says the housing unit would be open to all tenants as it would be built for the community.
