The former Moira Secondary School is getting a huge financial boost from the Ministry of Education.
The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board will receive $16.8 million in capital funding for an addition to the school when it becomes Meyers Creek Secondary School in September of this year.
Director of Education Mandy Savory-Whiteway says she and the board are “thrilled with the financial support.”
Some students from Quinte Secondary School will begin attending Meyers Creek Secondary this fall, others will go Centennial Secondary as Quinte shuts its doors.
Also, the board will receive $10.5 million for a new kindergarten to grade 8 school to consolidate two Belleville schools, Queen Elizabeth School and Queen Victoria School on the Queen Elizabeth site.
The province also announced $5.8 million for an addition at Centre Hastings Secondary School to consolidate it with Madoc Public School as a kindergarten to grade 12 school.
Chair of the Board Lucille Kyle says the investments are “welcome news” and praises the Ministry’s commitment to creating a “dynamic and inclusive” educational experience for students and staff of the schools.
The Board says additional details will be shared as plans come together.
