If Belleville council agrees with a staff recommendation, taxpayers in Thurlow ward can breathe a sigh of relief.
Who pays what for police service in Belleville is up for discussion at council’s meeting this afternoon and staff is recommending there be no change to the current system, which is area-rated and has urban ratepayers paying considerably more for policing than rural residents.
Council will see a report showing that over 92% of the calls for police service are in urban Belleville.
Charging everyone the same for police service would cost Thurlow ward ratepayers an extra $500 a year in taxes.
