Belleville city council has received an update on the Rogers Hometown Hockey event coming to the city next month..
At Monday night’s council meeting, Belleville Chamber of Commerce CEO Jill Raycroft outlined plans for the free family event to be held near city hall on Saturday, February 24th and Sunday the 25th.
Rogers Hometown Hockey will feature Ron Maclean and Tara Slone on stage across from city hall, NHL alumni, live music, and such events as a ball hockey rink.
Large TV screens in the downtown will carry the NHL hockey game, and will also carry videos of the city throughout the game.
Raycroft says the Belleville Armouries is participating, along with many other “partners.”
There will be food vendors on-site, and the BDIA will hold its annual “Savour the Chill” event in the downtown on the Saturday.
Farmers Market fees
The downtown Belleville revitalization project moves into the final stage this spring and that work will affect the Farmers Market in Market Square.
Streets in the Market Square area will be reconstructed.
Director of Corporate Services Matt MacDonald told city council Monday night that 23 of the farmers market’s 80 stalls will still be available at the market. but some will be out for the entire season.
MacDonald says he is working to have some of the vendors who have three or four stalls to share them with other vendors who are losing their stalls for the season.
City council decided to waive this year’s fees for the individual vendors because of the disruption to the market, at a total cost to the city of $10,000.
