It’s been a lengthy process to say the least, but the start of construction is nearing for the new Belleville police station, at Sidney and College Streets.
At Thursday’s police services board meeting, Mayor Taso Christopher told reporters designs have been completed and the board is recommending those drawings go forward to council for approval.
Police Chief Ron Gignac says it’s been a long process to get to this point, but the facility is a complex one and they need to make sure they get it right, considering the specific elements a police station needs.
If council approves the design, a call for tenders will be made for the $20 million project, with construction expected to start this spring and finish by summer of 2019.
