Council in Prince Edward County has agreed that $22,000 will continue to be in the museum’s capital budget for the de Vries Collection project.
Council approved the motion at their meeting on Tuesday night in Picton.
Jane Moon, the daughter of Jake de Vries, made a presentation detailing the revised plans for her father’s collection, totalling over 500 pieces.
She says she wants to honour her father’s work and it would be best shown in the green barn at Ameliasburgh Heritage Village.
Moon said she does realize there are significant renovations that would need to take place at the barn in order to house the collection.
She gave council an estimate of $153,000 for an H-VAC system, new roof, new flooring and interior renovations.
Councillor Gordon Fox asked if half the space at the barn would be enough for the entire collection.
Moon stated because of the high ceilings she believed half the barn would be enough space and if necessary, pieces could be rotated.
Councillor Roy Pennell inquired if there would be classes out to see the collection at the barn to which Moon said that would be the plan.
