A recent purchase by the Community Development Council of Quinte, will help with transportation and save some money at the same time.
The Healthy Kids Community Challenge Hastings & Prince Edward purchased 1,200 new blue bins, to be used in the Good Food Box Program.
The bulk food buying program offers fresh produce at a fraction of the retail price.
Program Coordinator Jim Mallabar says they can now increase the delivery truck’s capacity by 30 percent, because it allows for easier packing, without damaging the food.
The CDC says that over the 20 years of the Good Food Box program, it has grown from 75 boxes monthly to about 1,200 a month.
