Some happy children got to do their Christmas shopping early, with police escorts, at the Quinte Mall in Belleville Wednesday.
The fifteen children, paired with 15 cops, were taking part in a program called “Cop Shop,” sponsored by the Mall, Belleville Police Service and The Children’s Foundation.
A long list of businesses also participated.
Mall marketing manager Erin Graham says each child gets $250 and a new winter coat.
Deputy Police Chief Mike Callaghan says it’s a great opportunity for the children to have a “positive interaction with police.”
Callaghan says it’s also an opportunity to dispel the negative view of officers sometimes seen on television.
