The Belleville Senators and United Way of Hastings Prince Edward are facing off against poverty and are in need of a big assist from community donors.
An announcement was made at the Yardmen Arena Wednesday morning to promote the “Challenge Against Poverty” exhibition game in 2018 between the B-Sens and local leaders who are tasked with stepping up and donating to a crucial issue in the region.
B-Sens COO Rob Mullowney announced on behalf of the Senators organization a pledge of $10,000 to the initiative, through the Maurice Rollins Leadership Challenge.
That money – and the funds raised from community leaders – will go to support United Way’s 2017 campaign, which has a goal of 1.97 million dollars.
United Way Fundraising Director Melanie Cressman explains what the leadership challenge entails.
Mullowney tells Quinte News that the work Rollins has done for the community inspired the team to get involved.
Mullowney says this initiative is extremely important for the Quinte community.
He adds there will be a special experience in the cards for the most generous donors.
A date for the exhibition game has yet to be determined, but will likely be held sometime early in 2018.
