The Hastings Prince Edward board of health is fighting against smoking medical pot in public spaces.
Members of the board expressed concern Wednesday about people with medical marijuana certificates being allowed to smoke at places such as playgrounds, sports arenas or in social housing.

Belleville Councillor Jack Miller pointed out that municipalities should check whether or not their bylaws cover medical marijuana.
Health unit staff indicated assistance would be given to the municipalities in writing such bylaws.
The board will write to the provincial government to ask that the issue be covered in upcoming legislation, and will call on local MPPs Todd Smith and Lou Rinaldi for support.
That has to happen before December 14.
Marijuana is still scheduled to be legalized for recreational use in Canada next July.
