There could be news soon on how local midwives will ply their trade at local hospitals.
Midwives and their clients have complained that Quinte Health Care management has been to tightly regulating how many childbirths can be handled by midwives in hospitals.
Some believe many childbirths are transferred to an obstetrician against the mother’s wishes and that midwives aren’t being allowed to practice to their full abilities.
QHC Chief of Staff Dr. Dick Zoutman says discussions on midwives’ scope of practice are ongoing and promising.
