This flu season is underway and it’s predicted to be a bad one.
Quinte Health Care has received extra funding from the province to handle another surge in patients because of flu and extra beds are in place in its four hospitals.

Belleville General will have another nine beds available for patients, Trenton Memorial will have six extra beds, Prince Edward Memorial another six and North Hastings will have two more beds to deal with the flu.
Meanwhile, the increase in patients has put a strain on QHC’s finances. As it stands now, an over $600,000 deficit is projected at the end of the year, but it could be less than that as it isn’t known exactly how much extra the province has provided to deal with the flu surge.
People are strongly urged to get a flu shot. The vaccine is said to be a good match this season.
