It appears everyone is on the same page when it comes to proposed changes for schools named after our first Prime Minister.
At Monday night’s Hastings Prince Edward School Board meeting, a report was read from local Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario Union President Dave Henderson.
Henderson says locally they disagree with provincial ETFO leadership, which recommended changing the name of all schools named after Sir John A Macdonald.
It is in reference to the issues within Residential Schools and the treatment of First Nations people during his leadership.
Trustee Michael Brant says the band council agrees with local leadership within ETFO, schools including the one in Belleville, should keep its name.
Brant says we need to learn from history, rather than block it out.
