A woman from Hamilton Township, which surrounds Cobourg, let her admiration for actor Keanu Reeves get the best of her.
Northumberland OPP report the woman had been conversing with someone claiming to be the actor on Twitter recently.
That person claimed to be on a movie set in Turkey and said the Turkish government had restricted access to his money.
The person then asked for $2,700 to be wired to an address to help him out.
The woman went to a Western Union outlet but was told the request was fraudulent and refused service.
She then went to a local bank and was again warned of fraud, but she insisted the money be transferred and bank staff made the transfer.
The request was in fact fraudulent and at that time the woman called the police for assistance.
