Council in Prince Edward County will need to get creative when it comes to their 2018 budget.
Council heard a deputation from representatives from the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation on Thursday afternoon, asking for an annual contribution of almost $62,000 a year for a minimum of five years.
Mayor Robert Quaiff says they need to keep in mind they have also made a commitment to the Picton Hospital.
Council approved a motion to have the funding request be part of their 2018 budget discussions next month.
According to the UHKF statistics, Prince Edward County resident visits to Kingston hospitals have increased by over 5,000 visits which is 157 per cent since 2006. 13,029 Prince Edward County residents were treated at Kingston hospitals in 2015.
The hospitals have identified five areas of priority including the Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit, the emergency room, the operating room, labs and support services.
