Belleville’s Chief of Police Ron Gignac hopes city council will allow the department to have some of cash flowing from the Shorelines Casino.
Councillor and Police Services Board member Jack Miller said there was a 5% slice of the casino money that could be available for one time capital expenditures but that those decisions were entirely in council’s hands.
Meanwhile, Chief Gignac is preparing a report on staffing levels and patrol hours in the city, with a focus on policing in the rural part of Thurlow ward.
Council is discussing the option of changing who pays how much for the police service.
