The Chief of Police for the City of Belleville has congratulated both his officers and the Police Services Board for forward thinking and “being ahead of the curve.”
Chief Ron Gignac says the recent creation of a new position in the department, an Internet Child Exploitation officer was a very important decision.
Recent Statistics Canada data show sex offenses against children going up between 30 and 40% nationally.

Meanwhile, the Police Services Board authorized the hiring of two new volunteer auxillary officers next year. That will bring the city’s auxillary police unit to 15 members.
