There was a lot of interest in a temporary 6 month full time position as a Physician Recruitment and Retention Coordinator for the Quinte West and Brighton area.
Member of a recently formed Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee John Smylie says 22 applications were received for the job.
Six candidates will be interviewed this coming Tuesday, and an announcement on the hiring will be made soon.
Quinte West council and the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation each provided $50,000 to get the committee rolling.
Smylie told a meeting of OurTMH that the coordinator will create several special events to make sure prospective physicians have a chance to learn about everything the Quinte region has to offer.
He added that the new committee will work in concert with Quinte Health Care in its ongoing efforts to attract new doctors to work in local hospitals.
