Council in Prince Edward Council wants to see the Benson Park project go ahead but they want to make sure it is done right.
Only one tender was given the go ahead for the project Tuesday night and councillors did not want the project to be a rush job, nor something left half completed.
Councillor Steven Graham wanted to be sure their priorities were right when it came to the approximately $238,000 project.
He wanted to be sure this project wasn’t going ahead simply to get the $133,000 Canada 150 Grant money or if there was a real plan in place.
Neil Carbone, the Director of Community Development explained the project is a design build and there would be plans brought forward to council as well as public consultations.
Councillor Kevin Gale asked for two amendments to be made to the motion to approve the project.
Councillors were also concerned with the lack of consultation with the Prince Edward Heritage Committee on this project in regards to Barker House and the washroom addition.
In a recorded vote, the amended motion was approved by a vote of 12 to two with Councillors Harrison and Pennell being the lone dissenting votes.
