The cold winter temperatures didn’t stop staff and students from getting outside on the picket lines at Loyalist College on Friday afternoon.
OPSEU Local 420 President Eric Bauer spoke to the crowd of approximately 100 people.
“You and us are out here while they are in there,” he said with the help of a megaphone. “You and us are out here for quality while they are in there for greed. No more.”
He says the union will be voting next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday on the ‘final’ offer from the College Employer Council. He wants a “no vote” to come through.
Nursing student Amber Dyck says she was out on the picket line to simply show her support for the teachers.
PC nominee for Hastings, Lennox and Addington Daryl Kramp was also on hand for the rally and he believes the strike shouldn’t have even gotten to this point.
Bauer says they must be stay committed to their conviction that quality and fairness are paramount, and are ideals that can be achieved with a contract that respects co-governance, secure and stable staffing, and equity for contract faculty.
